Registered Dietician

We are seeking a registered dietician to join our team.

Overview

This position will assume responsibility for planning and performing activities related to the medical nutrition education of patients and their families at Fountain Health. Performs related duties as assigned. This position will serve as a resource to the staff members and physicians regarding dietary management of patients with diabetes, obesity and general nutrition needs. A deep understanding of different approaches to medical nutrition management is required including low carbohydrate protocols. Excellent communication skills are required. Must be wellness oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient-based medical nutrition therapy for individuals requiring dietary modifications, including diabetes self–management education.

  • Develops and manages education classes for group programs.

  • Provides education classes for group programs during usual working schedule with occasional evenings or weekend days previously agreed.

  • Assesses and reassesses patients to develop or modify individual treatment plans with collaborative goals.

  • Monitors and effectively works to improve individual patients’ outcomes.

  • Provides adequate support and follow up to enable the individual patient to achieve competency in using dietary modifications. 

  • Serves as a role model through attitude, communication style, and professionalism.

  • Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, team members and physicians.

  • Works closely with the multi-disciplinary team.

  • Produces quality work with minimal direction and supervision.

  • Identifies potential and actual safety concerns and takes appropriate action.

  • Follows appropriate documentation procedures.

  • Develops business plans and grant proposals to support applications for additional programs aimed to improve the public health of the Bermuda community.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and help with the day to day function of the office as required.

  • Knowledge of diabetes education programs.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.

  • Competent to use electronic medical records and computer systems. 

  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information.

  • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.

  • Position requires light to moderate work with 50 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry.

  • Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.

Professional Requirements

  • Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.

  • Complete annual education requirements.

  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

  • Comply with all policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.

  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.

  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-services.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with data entry and data analysis.

  • Strong problem solving, project management and organization skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition

  • Must be a Registered Dietitian

  • Certified Diabetes Educator preferred

  • At least two years of related experience including type 1, type 2, gestational diabetes, management of diabetes related technologies (insulin pump, continuous glucose monitoring), obesity management.

Medical Interning

Eligibility: You are at least eighteen years of age and enrolled in a course of study at a accredited college, university or equivalent institution leading to a formal qualification in a public health, medical or social field related to the technical work of Fountain Health. 

Alternatively, apply for work experience through the Bermuda Government Summer Employment Programme.
